Sculpture Exhibition
The body of work seeks to illuminate our perceptions of waste and value, utilizing reclaimed railroad refuse as the unifying medium. The collection explores both carved and hammer-and-anvil forged alterations of the raw material, portraying dualities of textured patina with polished finish. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, the work challenges conventional standards of beauty & value, as well as preconceived assumptions that only brush the surface of a subject, through finding the inverse: a sliver of beauty in an otherwise rejected and flawed object.
Forging old ties with a new meaning, the body of work flirts with ideas surrounding breathing new life and purpose into the bones of the past. Rather than any destination, the work presents as a point of departure and an in invitation to view the forgotten and forlorn with fresh eyes and a hopeful spirit.
